Sunshine, breezy days, and cool nights are in full swing here in Redding, California. We've got buckin' bulls, a big bouncy wonderland, sailboat races, and fire dancers that light up the night all happening in the month of May.
In 1948, the first ever Redding rodeo was held in an area that was once gravel and scrap from the building of Shasta Dam. Now celebrating its 76th year "buckin' by the river" from those humble beginnings, Redding's PRCA sanctioned four-day rodeo is once again coming to town! Come and watch bull riding, bareback riding, barrel racing, tie-down roping, team roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, mutton bustin', and chuck wagon races. But it's not just rodeo activities going on as each day gives back to the community. Special Kids Day celebrates the otherly-abled children in our area. Heritage Day shows kids in K-4 what it is like to be in a rodeo, be a rancher, a horse enthusiast, and to be responsible and respectful local citizen. Steak Feed is considered to be one of the best parties under the stars where you can get a steak dinner with all the fixings and then dance to live music. And the Asphalt Cowboys will be whipping up some good times with the biggest pancake breakfast in the nation. Grab your boots, bring the posse, and come on down to the Redding Rodeo.

When the sun goes down Redding Fire Festival lights up the night! Come see this family friendly event and enjoy a fun-filled day of amazing fire dancing, pyrotechnics, and cirque shows! Choose from a variety of activities and entertainment for all ages! See all the unique creations at the arts and crafts fair. Snack on a sweet snow cone or some tasty kettle corn. Try your hand at hooping, cornhole, and carnival games. Meet a mermaid, board a Viking ship, or get your face painted. Show off your creativity with a cosplay costume. Feeling hungry? Chomp on a ginormous turkey leg and for the adults there will be cold beer and wine available. Anchors away! You don't have to go far to enjoy some amazing sail boats in action. The Whiskeytown Sailing Club will be hosting the 59th Annual Whiskeytown Memorial Weekend Regatta on May 25th and 26th at Whiskeytown Lake. The Regatta is a two-day sailboat race which attracts sailors from all over California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. Come see dozens of sail boats glide across our beautiful lake and cheer for your favorite team! The race will begin at the Oak Bottom Marina on Saturday, May 25th at 10:30 a.m. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony following the final race on Sunday, May 26th. Come watch as these masterful sailors “tack” and “jib” all around Whiskeytown Lake!

Hurry, it’s the last month for Glowing Wild at McConnell Arboretum & Botanical Gardens at Turtle Bay Exploration Park! Experience ten acres of illuminated wildlife exhibits with plants and animals from all over the world, modeled after Asian lanterns. "Year of the Dragon" is the theme for 2024. Larger-than-life illuminated displays with captivating light animations and themed music accompany these enormous displays.
