Or head east of Redding and explore Lassen Volcanic National Park, with mountain scenery reminiscent of Yosemite and thermal wonders similar to Yellowstone, without the crowds. When it comes to state parks, to the north Castle Crags State Park towers above waiting for eager hikers to explore the 28 miles of hiking trails. If you take on the 5.5-mile, 2,000-foot elevation gain, Castle Dome Trail you will be rewarded with some of the most breath-taking views Mt. Shasta, the Grey Rocks, and Castle Dome.
