An hour's drive east of Redding off Highway 44, Eskimo Hill is one of the most popular sledding hills in the north state. Here are tips from the U.S. Forest Service on how to enjoy your visit:

• Walk along either edge of the hill to reach the top.

• Keep out of sled paths, don't linger at the bottom and keep an eye uphill for sledders coming down.

• Dogs on the hill must be on a leash.

• Do not build snow berms or jumps; this could result in a fine.

• Tubes, toboggans and sleds are OK for sliding down Eskimo Hill.

To get there from Redding: take CA-44E for about 45 miles. After entering the Lassen National Forest, keep an eye out for a parking lot on the left. From here you trudge through the snow and pines for about 40 yards. There will be a clearing and a magnificent sledding hill. Enjoy!
